Should we be so retentive?
Article Abstract:
The British Constructional Steelwork Association (BCSA) has said that some of its larger members will begin offering retention bonds rather than cash retentions on projects worth over 500,000 pounds sterling. The BCSA is registering its new policy with the U.K.'s Office of Fair Trading. While it is expected that the move will cut prices, some clients say they need cash securities to help them finance other areas of the project. It is estimated that some 2 billion pounds sterling of the construction industry's 50 billion pounds sterling per year turnover is being withheld through cash retentions.

A slice of the action
Article Abstract:
Creating a transparent three-dimensional information technology generated model of construction projects allows all members of the project team to input data and discover flaws in building or management techniques before any actual construction work is started. Technological advances have made the creation of evolving models a reality for construction projects but very few teams use them because of the perceived extra costs involves, although employing a transparent model would actually save costs in the long run.

A matter of dissatisfaction
Article Abstract:
The UK Scheme for Construction Contracts can be applied where a contract has been drawn up with no recommendation on how to deal with disputes. Contract adjudicators need to have a clear definition between what is a full blown dispute and what is a matter of dissatisfaction. Disputes are often held in limbo because a legal definition of the problem can not be agreed between the relevant parties.
