Six architects in BAA final stage
Article Abstract:
Airport operator BAA has invited architects Pascall and Watson, GMW, Percy Thomas Partnership, HOK and RMJM to submit details of their charges for an 'open-book' agreement for project architects. The company will then select four, five or all six of these firms to carry out core design work on its construction programme, in which it is investing 450 million pounds sterling a year. A final selection will be made in mid-Sep 1996. Detailed costings will have to include calculations relating to hourly rates and lump-sum fees.

Architects rage over BAA shortlists
Article Abstract:
BAA's methods of selecting consultants for its shortlists are too time-consuming and often involve unnecessary questions, according to architects. This approach is bringing heavy costs for architects, and is also preventing them from showing their professional abilities. BAA has already eliminated architects including Chapman Taylor and Nicholas Grimshaw and Partners, even though these firms have extensive airport experience.

Industry counts cost of BAA selection
Article Abstract:
Many architects, engineers and construction consultants have invested time and money during the past 18 months in an attempt to win framework agreements with BAA. The selection process has been difficult with a large amount of documentation. However BAA has defended the process, saying that participation was voluntary, there were no assessment fees and there is ultimately a guaranteed work stream.
