Tender price forecast
Article Abstract:
There has been a revival in optimism about the medium-term prospects for the UK construction industry. Tender prices rose by considerably more than the general level of inflation in the second quarter of 1999. Construction output rose for the third consecutive year in 1998, although the volume of work in the industry was 3% lower than in 1990. Construction Forecasting and Research and the Building Material Producers both predict that construction output will exceed the 1990 level by mid-2000.

Tender price forecast
Article Abstract:
Tender prices in the UK construction industry rose by 1.9% in the first quarter of 1997 from the previous quarter. Prices are forecast to increase by 6.2-9.1% in the period to Apr 1998, with the building cost index predicted to increase by 3.4%. Main contractors still have capacity available, but performance is likely to decline if demand expands further, as contractors have had only limited opportunity to invest in training and development.
