The Americans are coming
Article Abstract:
US companies have begun to establish a strong presence in the UK construction industry since the beginning of 1998. A number of leading firms of chartered surveyors have been purchased by US companies, while large sums of money are being made available by US companies to UK developers. It has become common for US property and construction companies to use the UK as a base from which to operate in the whole of Europe. US activity in the UK could lead to significant changes in the way property is developed, constructed and managed.

Life with EMU
Article Abstract:
Most UK construction companies seem to believe that they will not really be affected at all by the single European currency, as their work involves little cross-border movement of funds. In fact, the single European currency will have a significant impact on the future structure of construction and thus on the behaviour of contractors. The restrictions imposed by currency-determined project finance will soon be eliminated, and there will be potential to create truly European construction concerns.
