The Docklands legacy
Article Abstract:
The London Docklands Development Corp has seen some notable achievements as it has managed the redevelopment of the Docklands region of London, England. More than 800 ha of land has been reclaimed, while 52,000 new jobs have been created and more than 80 km of new or improved roads have been constructed. It is too early to state with certainty that a new city has been created, but there are indications that this may be the case. However, approaches taken at Docklands have not really provided planning lessons that can be applied in other environments.

Article Abstract:
Creating a viable transport infrastructure for the Docklands area of London, England, was a key concern for the London Docklands Development Corp (LDDC). It was seen as vital to improve transport links to the new Isle of Dogs Enterprise Zone, for example, and this led to the creation of a network of 12 km of roads known as the Red Brick Roads. The LDDC supported a number of transport schemes, including the Docklands Light Railway and the Jubilee Line Extension.
