The next trend
Article Abstract:
One trend that home medical equipment (HME) providers need to remain abreast of is the growth in physician-hospital organizations (PHOs). PHOs are local bodies that contract directly with insurers and employers to provide healthcare services. PHOs are likely to consolidate into larger organizations that provided discounted services. That could benefit home care providers, whose intent is to provide coordinated, cost-effective care.

Major industry changes
Article Abstract:
Five home medical equipment (HME) providers comment on the changes they have encountered in recent years. John McCarthy, president of Tamarac, FL's Affordable Medical Supply, noted that big companies, in the form of HMOs and PPOs, are making a comeback, making it hard for small, local shops to compete. He credits good service as the factor that has enabled his company to stay in business.
