The shape of things to come
Article Abstract:
The proposed construction employers' organisation Newco will take a different form dependent upon its goal. The group may opt solely to eradicate duplicated effort and save money or it may seek to present a unified industry stance. The Federation of Civil Engineering Contractors and the BEC could maintain their existing agenda but with more co-operation. Alternatively, a Chief Executive could be appointed to head a joint controlling council which would lobby government, with the council incorporating virtually autonomous sections that would focus on specialist services.

Article Abstract:
The British Major Contractors Group (MCG) has announced its intention to hire a chief executive who will be devoted to providing firm managerial direction to the group. MCG has previously been managed on a part-time basis which has been ineffective because the day-to-day management of its structure and functions is obviously required. The new role demonstrates the group's serious intentions towards achieving a unified approach between the Building Employers Confederation, the Federation of Civil Engineering Contractors and the Federation of Master Builders.
