Trade deficit widens for U.S. marine industry
Article Abstract:
An Oct 1999 report from the National Marine Manufacturers Assn noted that the trade deficit of the US marine industry widened in 1998 and appears certain to widen even further in 1999. Association statistics for 1999 indicate that boat exports in virtually all categories have declined in 1999, while imports are outpacing 1998 levels by 14%, with increases of as much as 100% in a number of categories. In a way, the industry trade scenario is a case of success at home hurting overseas business.
