West salutes vendors for environmentalism
Article Abstract:
West Marine in Watsonville, CA, the largest specialty marine in the US, paid tribute to three of its vendors with environmental awards. The awards were given to honor the partners in joining the company in educating boaters on environmental awareness. Davis Instruments in Hayward, CA, was awarded for developing a new quick reference card entitled "99 Things You Can Do to Keep Our Waterways Clean." Also awarded was 3M Marine Products in St. Paul, MN, for being the title sponsor for the National Clean Boating campaign together with West Marine. Honorable mention was given to Sealand Technology in Big Prairie, OH.

Boat Tree has its roots in the barrio
Article Abstract:
Joe Pozo's Boat Tree dealerships in Central Florida generate sales and win awards in a nontraditional market. The company markets to the large Latino population in Florida. Aside from placing ads in the Spanish-language publications and on radio stations geared to Hispanic audiences, the company also exhibits the boats at several Latino festivals, which attract 5,000 to 7,000 people. In the six years since Pozo created the dealership, he has won several awards. Aside from marketing to the Hispanic market, Pozo also targets women by establishing female cruise and fishing clubs.

N.Y. marina finds way to draw kids to boating
Article Abstract:
Surfside 3 Marina in Lindenhurst, NY, has launched Kids in Boating, a program to promote boating among children of Surfside customers during the off-season. The program involved various activities designed to teach kids about the fun and the basics of boating. The one-day event was co- sponsored by the New York Marine Trade Assn, Northeast Marne, Sea Ray Boats Inc, Raytheon Marine Co and Clarion Corp.
