Performance enhancement

Article Abstract:

There is still considerable uncertainty within the UK construction industry about the use of performance specifications. If performance specifications are to be used, then agreement should be reached on this when the designer is appointed, as it has repercussions for the selection of contractual documentation and the project programme. Performance specifications are particularly suitable for projects where the visual intent and detailing of the design is vital and where it will be necessary to use industrial processes to make products and systems that must be accurately made before being delivered to site.

Can you be more specific?

Article Abstract:

It is essential for architects to accurately portray and present designs, with particular care being paid to specifications which can result in contractural complications if wrong. Architects can use in-house specification systems or standard trade specification systems which are used in many parts of the industry. The most commonly used specification system in the UK is the Common Arrangement which provides architects with a list of published categories to use when detailing specifications.
