Under new management
Article Abstract:
Management contracting was a very popular approach in the UK construction industry in the late 1980s. It was seen as a way of coping with large, complex schemes in which the employer wished the design to be undertaken by an independent design team but where there was also a need for early completion and full price competition. However, management contracting fell from favour when confusion arose because employers felt it necessary to employ their own project managers to monitor management contractors' activities. The management contract also did not prove to be particularly profitable.
