What Bob and Chris did next
Article Abstract:
Robert Dean and Chris Stroud, formerly middle managers at Mowlem, encountered a number of challenges when they purchased Fearnley in Nov 1997. These included suspicion among Fearnley's employees. However, it was possible to purchase local maintenance firm MBM in Feb 1998, and Fearnley also won a large hospital refurbishment contract at that time. Dean and Stroud developed a new marketing strategy for Fearnley's window replacement and refurbishment business in Apr 1998, while in Oct 1998 they announced redundancies as the accountancy operations of Fearnley and MBM were merged.

Man behind Egan report speaks out
Article Abstract:
Simon Murray, technical services chief of BAA, is seen as the architect behind the UK government's construction industry report, published in July 1998. The report, 'Rethinking Construction', is mostly based on the work carried out by Murray in his role as leader of clients' body, the Construction Round Table. His outspoken views are said to have offended the construction industry, but Murray is unrepentant and says that radical changes should be made to the industry, which must become more innovative.

Wolfe chief disputes reason for failure

Contractor Wolfe's collapse was caused by the reaction of subcontractors to the appointment of auditors to investigate the company for further borrowing, according to Wolfe Chmn Barrie Wolfe. This view of the company's collapse is not shared by Malcolm Shierson, partner at receiver Grant Thornton. Shierson has stated that Wolfe collapsed with debts of around 2 million pounds sterling after being negatively affected by several claims.
