Wither the Housing Corporation?
Article Abstract:
The UK Housing Corporation, which has been responsible for social housing since 1965, has been facing considerable difficulties recently. It has been allocated a development budget of 651 million pounds sterling for 1997/1998, compared with 1.7 billion pounds sterling for 1993/1994, and there are now rumours about the possible resignation of chief executive Anthony Mayer. However, it is unlikely that the Housing Corporation will collapse. Indeed, it is undergoing positive change and has the potential to be very relevant.

Learning to live together
Article Abstract:
There was considerable conflict about the social housing element of the regeneration scheme for the Docklands area of London, England, in the mid-1980s. However, the London Docklands Development Corp was eventually able to overcome these difficulties. In the early 1990s, it made funding available to refurbish some council housing, and was able to convince the government that it was wise to increase investment in social housing and more mixed developments. Owner-occupation now accounts for more than 45% of homes.
