Teenagers' employment, earnings, and spending
Article Abstract:
Spending habits of teenagers from 16 to 19 years of age who work part-time were studied. Teenagers in 1990 spent $49.7 billion, most of which they had earned from part-time jobs. Although research has shown that part-time work teaches teenagers the value of money, money management was found to be a source of disagreement between parent and child. High school students who worked over the 15-20 hours average were also found to less involved with family, friends and school.
