FRANCE: NEW OPENING FOR LA VACHE QUI RIT
Article Abstract:
After three years of research, the Fromageries Bel will use a new patented opening system on its boxes of La Vache Qui Rit cheese. It consists of an adhesive label encircling the box, and cut in the middle. There is a transparent oriented polypropylene band placed on this label which must be pulled in order to open the box. This band is glued with a coating which leaves no trace on the box, and which cannot be glued back after it is opened. This system for opening La Vache Qui Rit boxes has been changed at the request of consumers, who in 1995 said that the opening system for the box could be improved.

FRANCE: VIRGIN COLA STAYS COLD LONGER
Article Abstract:
Regina, which produces 1.5-litre bottles, and Tetra Pak which produces half-litre bottles, have supplied Virgin Cola with preform moulds for bottles which keep its product 4 colder than those of its competitors for two hours after they are taken out of a refrigerator and remain at a 25% room temperature. This property is the result of an additive which contains nacre, which has been added to the original polyethylene terephthalate (PET). Virgin Cola expects to market 5mn new bottles by 30 September 2001.
