Center for Analysis and Prediction of Storms works on new method of numerical weather prediction
Article Abstract:
Scientists at the Center for Analysis and Prediction of Storms (CAPS) at the University of Oklahoma are developing a weather forecasting system based on numerical computations. CAPS is also working with other agencies to gather high-resolution data in the study called Storm and Meso-Scale Ensemble Experiment (SAMEX). One of the goals of SAMEX is to determine the feasibility of ensemble forecasting which employs several individual forecasts to produce a mean forecast.

Weather analysis and forecasting (adopted by the AMS Council on 17 August 1998)
Article Abstract:
Increased demand for accurate weather forecasts has created a revolution in weather forecasting techniques. Thus, major technological advances in computers, observing equipment and in the scientific explanation of the physics underlying weather phenomena have been developed. The newest weather forecasting techniques include very short-range forecasts, short-range forecasts, medium-range forecasts, extended-range forecasts and monthly and seasonal forecasts.

NOAA-15 replaces older weather satellite
Article Abstract:
The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has announced the results of the engineering tests and instrument calibration evaluations conducted on the polar-orbiting operational environmental satellite, NOAA-15. It makes use of the most advanced imaging and sounding innovations and is expected to last for than 12 years. The satellite collects meteorological data and sends the data to Earth for use in weather and climate forecasting.
