Charles H.B. Priestly: 1915-1998

Charles Priestly was a pioneer of modern meteorology having been appointed as the first chief of CSIRO's Division of Atmospheric Research in Melbourne, Australia. He was born in London, England, on Jul 8, 1915 and earned a double degree in mathematics and economics from Cambridge University. In Sep 1946, he was appointed to establish the meteorological division of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research in Australia. From then, his contributions to the field of meteorology were immeasurable. Priestly died on May 18, 1998 after several years of ill health.

Charles G. Knudsen: 1915-1998
Article Abstract:
Meteorologist Charles G. Knudsen died in New York, NY, on Jun 25, 1998, at the age of 82. His career in the field of meteorology began in 1941 as an analyst in what was to be the predecessor of the National Meteorological Center in Washington, DC. His retirement came after serving eight years as director of the NOAA National Weather Service 14-state Central Region, Kansas City, in 1979. He also served as captain in the US Navy Reserve from 1941 to 1973.
