Article Abstract:
The conclusion by R. Hetzel et al in their article 'Bivergent extension in orogenic belts: the Menderes massif (southwestern Turkey)' that the central Menderes massif is a metamorphic core complex that records the start of the continuing extension of Western Turkey, may not be right. There is a lot of geothermal activity in Western Turkey and therefore, the Hetzel data may only indicate a slow denudation which started at ca. 20 Ma because of a very high geothermal temperature gradient from hydrothermal circulation.

Article Abstract:
The claims of Neumann and Hearty regarding sea-level changes during the most recent interglacial period are not supported by the geologic evidence they forwarded. Among the questionable evidences put forth are the age of the notches and the upper 5e eolianites' internal structure. The authors also overlooked the evidence of sea-level changes based on coastal deposits. Nevertheless, the complexity of the sea-level fluctuation during the last interglacial period is evident on the isotopic substage 5e patterns.
