Experimental test of the effect of ultraviolet-B radiation in a planktonic community
Article Abstract:
A mesocosm experimental test has been made on the effect of ultraviolet-B (UVB) radiation in a planktonic community and findings indicate enhanced UVB radiation can change dynamics and structure of the pelagic food web. Dynamics of several populations at different trophic levels were looked at in the experiment. Severe effects of UVB seen on ciliates and large phytoplankton communities would severely limit upward transfer of energy and mass. If UVB is enhanced at the community level, the ecosystem moves toward a more microbial food web.

Chemical tracing of salinity sources in Lake Kinneret (Sea of Galilee), Israel
Article Abstract:
Chemical tracing of salinity sources in Lake Kinneret, or the Sea of Galilee, in Israel, is discussed. The lake gets a major portion of its salt from unmonitored springs discharging through the lakebottom. Researchers have sought to characterize the springs by estimating chemical composition. Salt concentrations in spring waters result from recent mixing of saline brines and fresh water.
