Estimating lake-atmosphere CO(sub.2) exchange
Article Abstract:
Estimation of lake-atmosphere carbon dioxide exchange is discussed. The flux in atmospheric carbon dioxide above a small woodland lake was directly measured by the eddy covariance technique and compared with fluxes deduced from changes in measured lake water carbon dioxide storage and with flux predictions from boundary-layer and surface-renewal models. FIndings of the study were that usually the surface-renewal model underpredicts actual flux and that underestimates are greater with comparisons that involve homogeneous boundary-layer models.

Temporal changes of microbial assemblages in the ice and snow cover of a high mountain lake
Article Abstract:
Changes over time of microbial species assemblages in the ice/snow cover with environmental changes of a high mountain lake, Lake Redo in the Pyrenees of Spain are described. Both physical structure and chemical characteristics changed in the very dynamic environment of the winter cover and the species composition as well as the biomass of the microbial groups changed. A growth period lasted from Jan. to mid-April and an ablation period from mid-April till the June ice-out.
