Pore-water convection induced by peeper emplacement in saline sediment
Article Abstract:
Dialysis samplers, called "peepers," sample pore water at various depths by relying on exchange across a dialysis membrane between fluid-filled cells and surrounding sediment. If there is a large density difference between the cell fluid in permeable sediments and the pore water, the resulting motion in the pore water distorts concentration distribution near the peeper.

The effect of variations in irradiance on buoyancy regulation in Microcystis aeruginosa
Article Abstract:
Cyanobacteria that can regulate their buoyancy have been known since the late 1960s. This characteristic helps them succeed in a variety of ecosystems because they can alter their position in the water column through physiological changes. The 3 mechanisms of buoyancy regulation are cell ballast, regulation of gas vesicle synthesis, and collapse of gas vesicles.
