"Split flee hide vanish disintegrate": Tom Wolfe and the arrest of New Journalism
Article Abstract:
Critics term Tom Wolfe's non-fiction narratives of the 1960s and early 1970s as New Journalism, in which the text implicates the writer, reader and subject in a fantasy of escape and recapture. New Journalism texts could be seen as political and cultural phenomena, beyond mere literary expression. Wolfe's 'The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test,' deals with the social and cultural scene of the 60s. The book contains numerous references to novelist Ken Kesey, the Merry Pranksters, Hell's Angels, Timothy Leary, and hippies. Since the early 70s, Wolfe's satirical narratives have lost their relevance.

In the bag
Article Abstract:
Mummy sleeping bags are narrower towards the feet and are warmer than rectangular bags. The fillings can be synthetic or down. It is best to avoid bags which are quilted as heat is lost through the seams. Twenty-nine mummy bags costing from 20 pounds sterling up to 150 pounds were tested. Rab Atlas 500, at 140 pounds is recommended, as are the Mountain Equipment Skywalker 11 at 100 pounds and the John Cotton 3 Season 300g. These are all down bags. Synthetic bags are not as warm as they are claimed to be and the Regatta Survivor 350 seriously overestimated its warmth rating.

Simplifying the jargon of community ecology: a conceptual approach
Article Abstract:
The misuse of ecological terms often leads to miscommunication and false assumptions concerning the concepts used during scientific investigation and verification. A proposed framework defining and clarifying the use of the words 'ensemble,' 'community,' 'guild' and 'assemblage' in the study of evolution and ecology is presented. The diagram indicates the proper use of the terms with regards to phylogeny, resources and geography.
