Thomas James Gibson Henry: 1912-1994

Article Abstract:

Canadian meteorologist Thomas James Gibson Henry passed away on Sept. 3, 1994. Henry earned an honors degree in mathematics and physics from the University of Saskatchewan and a master's degree from the same university. He joined the Meteorological Service of Canada in 1937. He was best remembered for his studies on upper wind fields and isobaric and contour charts. He was also one of the first Canadian meteorologists to use computers and computer models in meteorological research.

Thomas J. Weitz: 1913-1998

Article Abstract:

US Weather Bureau forecaster Thomas J. Weitz died in Feb 1998 at the age of 84. He started his career with the bureau as a hydro-climatic inspector in 1942. He then became a principal assistant at the Weather Bureau Airport Station in Burbank, CA, in 1946 and was transferred to the Walla Walla, WA, station where he stayed until he retired in 1979. Weitz received several commendations during his career and was also a published writer.

Joan W. Ward: 1933-1994

Article Abstract:

Meteorologist Joan M. Ward passed away on Aug. 4, 1994. Ward spent 20 years of her career at the Air Force Geophysics Laboratory. Her most important contribution in the field of meteorological research was the computerized terrain map of the Northern Hemisphere. Her colleagues considered Ward a friendly and warm person. She was also described as outgoing, thoughful, generous, pleasant and dependable.
