Variscan tectonics of central Europe: postaccretionary intraplate deformation of weak continental lithosphere
Article Abstract:
A paleomagnetic survey of block-bounding displacements in the Paleozoic Variscan belt of central Europe shows the fault-systems and fault-bounded blocks to have arisen due to postaccretionary intra-plate deformation of a weak domain of Gondwana-derived continental lithosphere. The deformation allows itself to be partitioned into deep-seated strike-slip and reverse/normal detachment systems. The results are in striking contrast to the notion that the fault-bounded blocks accrued due to amalgamation of narrow continental plates during Mid-Devonian to Lower Carboniferous.

Accretion of the southern Banda arc to the Australian plate margin determined by Global Positioning System measurements
Article Abstract:
The Global Positioning System's (GPS) geodetic measurements from Indonesia and Australia confirm the accretion of the Banda island arc to the Australian continent's margin. The GPS data identifies tectonic areas in northern Australia, Sunda volcanic arc, Sunda shelf, and Banda volcanic and outer arc. The rotation of the Banda arc is faster than that of the Sunda arc. The convergence of Australia and Eurasia is a northward translation of the arc, and has shortening in the Flores and Wetar thrusts, and faults in the back arc basin.

Paleogene continental margin truncation in southwestern Mexico: Geochronological evidence
Article Abstract:
A comparison of isotopic data and geological observations shows that the Paleogene continental margin truncation in southwestern Mexico is a consequence of an interaction of mechanisms. In the northen section, trunction seems to be a result of tectonic erosion associated with asubduction process during the early Cretaceous to middle Eocine. In the southeastern segment, truncation is seems to be the result of a lateral removal of material associated with the displacement of the Baja California block around 40-25 Ma.
