Vertical and lateral collapses on Tenerife (Canary Islands) and other volcanic ocean islands: comment and reply
Article Abstract:
Marti et al (1997) presented a mechanical connection model suggesting that vertical collapses may trigger lateral collapses in Tenerife, Canary Islands. However, data are lacking to support their model. Existing research on the presence of mafic-salic cycles and the ages of three lateral and vertical collapses are questionable because the coincidence in time and the connection between lateral and vertical collapses in the area are not adequately demonstrated. The model does not reflect the internal structure of the Las Canadas edifice at the time considered.

Effect of strain rate in the distribution of monogenetic and polygenetic volcanism in the Transmexican volcanic belt: comments and reply
Article Abstract:
Susana A. Alaniz-Alvarez and assoc hypothesized that the orientations of the alignments of volcanic centers and the types of volcanism in the Transamerican volcanic belt are fault-controlled. The evidences that she presented were not convincing since they show only one fault oriented transverse to the arc and parallel to a north-south-trending alignment of polygenetic volcanoes. A case should also have been made for an arc-parallel alignment of the polygenetic volcanoes that they marked.

Origin and geodynamic implication of the Dupal isotopic anomaly in volcanic rocks from the Philippine island arcs: comment and reply
Article Abstract:
P.R. Castillo proposed that the Dupal-like isotopic signature seen in the entire Philippine arc system originates from an ancient and heterogeneous Indian Ocean-type mantle source. Castillo also suggested that the addition of another component from sediment or downgoing slab to this mantle source has resulted into the isotopic and chemical variation of the arc lavas. However, this model can account for the particular spatial and temporal isotopic variation of the Taiwan-Luzon arc lavas.
