The history of the catamaran is presented. The catamaran was invented by Sir William Petty in the 1660s when he built a twin-hulled sailing boat. His boat proved not to be very safe. A modern twin-hulled catamaran 'Team Phillips' is due to be relaunched after its hull was damaged.
