The zen of Alzheimer's: in losing touch with this world, my mother found peace on another's plane
Article Abstract:
The author's mother suffered from Alzheimer's for 16 years before she died. While it robbed her of personal memory, it gave her delight in simple and infantile activities and observations that helped her to be less anxious and afraid of others and her surroundings. She developed the ability to sit for long periods of time and enjoy whatever activity in which she was involved. It was ironic when, after her death, the author found a composition from 1925 in which she talked about her youthful forgetfulness.

A poll reveals that Americans want Medicare benefits to remain unchanged, but they feel doctors and hospitals should be paid less.
