Research examining ways of extending the oligopoly non-cooperative behavior model of Heinrich von Stackelberg too include nonidentical firms is presented. The impact of an additional firm's entry into the market is considered, including the increase of profit and competition.

On the uniqueness of the welfare-maximizing number of firms under Cournot oligopoly

The authors propose that an ideal number of firms in an oligopoly can exist. Indirect entry regulation can bring about the correct number to maximize welfare.
