Bread and morning goods

Article Abstract:

The United Kingdom market for morning goods and bread is expected to grow slightly by volume during 1994-98, although competitive pricing will suppress market growth by value of the standard white sliced bread sector. Bread is consumed in more than 99% of households, with consumption having apparently stabilized following a continuous fall since the mid 1940s. The bread market fell 5% by value to around 1.65 billion pounds sterling in 1994 from 1992, with 68% of the market accounted for by white bread. Sales of morning goods grew 28% to about 1.06 billion pounds sterling during 1990-94. The market is analysed.
