Can cognitive science improve the training of industrial process operators?
Article Abstract:
Theories regarding cognitive processes that are involved in performing complex dynamic tasks and the implications of these theories for the training of operators who carry out these work tasks are analyzed. Some common cognitive processes involved when performing dynamic tasks, include subgoal formation, symptom matching, means-end analysis, generate and test routines, and application of heuristic. The concept of goal modules and its role in the effective analysis of the training needs for industrial process operators are discussed.
