The labour market impact of trade in middle-income countries: a factor content analysis of Spain
Article Abstract:
A study analyzed the effect of trade liberalization on middle-income countries' labour markets, in general, and the likely impact of trade liberalization on the labor market of Spain, in particular. A new methodology is proposed to factor the content of trade calculations in the analysis. Its application to the case of Spain shows that trade liberalization has exerted a considerably negative effect on labor demand and has particularly affected the demand for unskilled workers.
