Contractual structure in agriculture
Article Abstract:
A study proposed the use of a generalized double-sided moral hazard framework to develop a unified theory of contract selection in agricultural production. The model allows for the mutual monitoring of each other by landlord and tiller, both of which are generally averse to risk and possess different levels of farming skills and efficiency. The model was used to demonstrate that the optimal contract maximizes productivity, net of risk bearing and agency costs.
