Disparities in Australian Regional Incomes: Are They Widening or Narrowing?
Article Abstract:
Data from the Australian census between 1976 and 1991 shows state per capita incomes have increasingly dispersed, while the rates for sub-state regions have remained relatively constant for this period. This suggests barriers to capital and labor have diminished the ability of market flow to help declining state economies. Areas for further research include spatial implications of reduced industry protection and Australia's system of internal government transfers affect the dispersion of regional per capita incomes.

Disparities in Australian regional incomes: are they widening or narrowing?
Article Abstract:
Research on census data between 1976 and 1991 shows that Australian regional incomes are becoming less disparate. Per capita incomes increased in cross-state dispersion, while intrastate dispersion across 57 separate statistical divisions remained unchanged. This demonstrates that distribution of incomes within states and statistical divisions is becoming increasingly equal.

Measuring the impact of child care subsidies on the incomes of mothers returning to work
Article Abstract:
Child care subsidies generate a wide range of benefits for Australian employees. They contribute to vertical equity by counterbalancing employment-related costs, and to horizontal equity by addressing the greater needs of employees with more than one child. Single parents benefit most from subsidies, especially if they are working full-time and receive only one income.
