The successful reorganization of Wicke's Cos. which had filed under Chapter 11 of the United States bankruptcy code, is described. The turnaround was managed by Wickes president, Sanford Sigoloff, who took over just prior to the company's filing under Chapter 11 and who has successfully rescued other companies. Wickes cash flow problems arose primarily because of diversification into businesses with housing industry connections, just as the building industry went into a slump. Wickes may be ripe for a takeover.

Article Abstract:

The announcement of the division of the British company, Bowater, caused a sharp increase in its share prices on the London stockmarket. The American operations, which produce newsprint and bulk paper, will be named Bowater Incorporated. The other half will become Bowater Industries, a company manufacturing consumer products and packaging. Advantages of the split are discussed.
