In the shadow of Foxwoods: some effects of casino development in Southeastern Connecticut
Article Abstract:
The Mashantucket Pequot Indian tribes opened their first casino in southeastern Connecticut in Feb. 1992. The Foxwoods Resort Casino is the biggest in the US and provides 10,000 jobs to its residents and attracts 30,000 tourists a day. Survey shows effects of the casino to the area are mixed. Traffic congestion has changed the town's character. However, employment opportunities have given hope to those who lost their jobs in the defense industry.

The gaming industry's effect on economic activity of the Mississippi Gulf Coast
Article Abstract:
An economic index was formulated to assess the economic impact of gaming on the Mississipi Gulf Coast's local economy. The economic index showed that growth in residential sales volume and employment were heavily influenced by gaming. The index also established a correlationship between gaming industry's revenue and the Mississipi Gulf Coast's retails sales and bank deposits.
