Money, barter, and inflation in Russia

Article Abstract:

Analysis of the relationships among barter, money, and inflation in Russia during transition period, mainly focusing on the effects of barter relative to the other variables is done. On the basis of the results of cointegration and vector error-correction methods, it was found that Russian barter resulted partly from output losses, and to a lesser extent, from the reduction in real money balances.
