Privatization in Kuwait

Article Abstract:

The Finance and Economy Committee of Kuwait's National Assembly has approved a draft Privatization Law. The law, which has been submitted for debate to the National Assembly, is a key recommendation of a World Bank team sent to the country after its liberation in 1991. The privatization process will begin with the divestment of the various holdings owned by the Kuwait Investment Authority. These investments, which are for firms listed at the Kuwait Stock Exchange, have an aggregate value of more than $2 billion.
