National Academy of Engineering Pres. Robert M. White retired on June 30, 1995, but will continue his scientific pursuits as University Corp. for Atmospheric Research senior fellow and Massachusetts Institute of Technology lecturer. White, who was the Weather Bureau chief under Pres. John F. Kennedy and Pres. Lyndon B. Johnson, has also served as National Research Council administrator and American Meteorological Society president.

Devonport Management Ltd (DML), whose main client is the Royal Navy, has committed to safety issues which include refurbishment of some of its major buildings and the extending of a covered dry dock. It has also been awarded the FPA Certificate of Commendation and the FPA National Fire Safety Award and has adopted environmental procedures, including the containment and recycling of CFCs from ship refrigeration systems.
