The article discusses vaporware as a signaling game equilibrium strategy in which the possibility of new product marketing is private information and a deterrent to newcomers. Vaporware's welfare effects are ambiguous but the potential to harm consumers exists.

Article Abstract:

A comparison is presented between bundling, or different package sizes, and two-part tariffs, or different rate plans in self selection among consumer segments. Bundling is found to be more profitable in the absence of cost considerations.
