Wine

Article Abstract:

The UK wine market is growing at over 5% per year with the total volume of sales for 1998 expected to be almost 800 million liters. Experts predict that this level of growth is likely to continue, with red wine continuing to take a growing percentage of the market. French producers dominate the market, accounting for 35% of imports in 1997, but Australian wines are becoming increasingly important and have acquired the third biggest source of imports in terms of value. The off-trade accounted for around 84% of sales by volume in 1998, with grocery multiples accounting for more than 60% of this figure.
