Wine

Article Abstract:

The U.K. market for still, unfortified wine is forecast to reach 630 million lt, worth 4.3 billion pounds sterling, in 1996. Wine sales are continuing to grow, with consumers making increasingly sophisticated choices about the wine they drink. There has been strong growth in personal imports via cross-border shopping. There is a continuing trend away from white wine and towards red wine, although white wine, with a 57% share, is the largest sector. It is expected that wine sales will reach 5.43 billion pounds sterling by 2000, at current prices.
