Arbitrary rules which impede learning
Article Abstract:
Sixth form students who opt to sit an A-level examination after only one year of study, rather than the usual two years, can sometimes find that this result is discounted by college admissions tutors, even if a high grade is achieved. Some colleges require all the A-levels on which they make a course offer to be taken at the same time, and do not take into account any A-level taken early. This has caused concern among some school teachers, who believe that pupils should be allowed to sit A-level examinations at the time which is most appropriate to their academic development.

Fooled in paradise: Margaret Mead's anthropological work was the cornerstone upon which much of the edifice of social conditioning was built
Article Abstract:
Margaret Mead, an anthropologist, was a student of Franz Boas, the father of American anthropology. She wrote Coming of Age in Samoa in 1928 after studying heredity and environment in relation to adolescence amongst the Polynesians of Samoa. However it was found that Mead had been given false information on which her book is based. Franz Boas also based his extreme conclusions mainly on Mead's erroneous findings.

Every which way but Bush; Republican Convention struggled to influence 'Reagan Democrats.'
Article Abstract:
The 1992 Republican Convention took place in Houston. The convention focussed on themes such as foreign policy and family values, rather than on actually nominating a candidate. Television coverage was cut down to a couple of hours each evening. The result will be in the hands of the 'Reagan Democrats' who have been floating voters in the past few presidential elections.
