Aunt Deirdre says 'Economists, get out of the sandpit. Now!'(economist Deirdre McCloskey essay; Perspective)(Transcript)
Article Abstract:
Economics and history professor Deirdre McCloskey argues that the three methods that dominate modern mainstream 'neoclassical' economics are wrong and produce wrong results. McCloskey recognises that the three men who invented the methods in the 1940s were geniuses, but she argues that their brilliant ideas have become no more than boys' games in a sandpit. McCloskey, who was once a man, is saddened by the confidence which economists, mainly men, have in their methods. She maintains that most of the economics that appears in scientific journals is wrong.

The worth of nations
Article Abstract:
Tom Nairn is an academic who has studied the issue of nationalism. He sees nationalism as becoming more important and does not see it as a purely negative phenomenon, despite the conflict in Bosnia. He argues that nationalism is more important than Marxists have generally recognised, and is not abnormal or outdated. He is teaching in Edinburgh, Scotland, after working in Prague, Czech Republic, where he was invited to carry out research at the Central European University.
