Advice for teachers and lecturers working in universities, colleges and other post-16 educational environments on how to identify and deal with students who require extra help. Tips include diagnosing problems early on so they can be dealt with more easily, being generous with time and empathy, offering support through independent learning, and not assuming that because you can lecture you are capable of teaching the basics.
