Danger: unwanted scientists
Article Abstract:
World security is being threatened by the lack of recognition given to nuclear scientists in post-Cold War Russia. Nuclear power is being actively sought by countries such as Libya, Iraq and China, and the scientists may be tempted to sell some of the huge stores of weapons-grade nuclear materials because of their low or non-existent wages. The scientists are demoralized and undervalued, with some top officials committing suicide through depression. The nuclear stores are unsecured and some Russian officials have exposed the country's thermonuclear programmes as unstable.

Cyberspace's desert song
Article Abstract:
The new king of Jordan, Abdullah, understands the impact of cyberspace and the need for Jordan to take part in changes wrought by this phenomenon. Jordan has a young population and few natural resources, and employment is a priority. The new king aims to attract Jordanians who have traveled abroad for their education, to return home, and hopes to set up a project similar to Silicon valley in Jordan. Other issues, such as water depletion, are also important for Jordan's future.
