Article Abstract:

World population growth has been the subject of many speeches and surveys in 1992. The issue is being looked at both in terms of poverty and environmental damage. In developed countries we use most of the minerals and fossil fuels, although we have only 23% of the population. Developed countries produce 86% of gross national product. World population is now 5.48 billion, and may reach 6 billion by 1998. Ninety-seven percent of the future growth will be in the southern hemisphere, with Africa contributing one-third of this figure.

An unconventional treatment

Article Abstract:

Health professionals of the future will be assessed by their competences, rather than their titles, according to Sam Leinster, Dean of the University of East Anglia's medical school, which is to open in 2002. He feels that there must be a blurring of the boundaries between the education of the various health professionals.

References to education provision in prisons in General Sir David Ramsbotham's fourth annual report as Her Majesty's chief inspector of prisons for England and Wales are examined. The provision needs improving.
