Library digitization projects are under way in the United Kingdom, and have been welcomed by publishers, who see them as a way of reaching a wider audience. This follows initial worries, which have been eased after consutation. The Rapid Clearance Service of the Copyright Licencing Agency will deal with licensing. Material can be used by teachers, and two payment schemes have been suggested. One involves fees per student, and the other fees per library.

Young, gifted and on the right track
Article Abstract:
Brunel University's Urban Scholars Programme, which will begin in Sep 1999, aims to ensure that children from socially deprived urban areas have access to university facilities and the help of university staff. The first group of children will come from secondary schools in Wandsworth, London, England. There is strong determination among those involved in the scheme to ensure that gifted children are able to fulfill their potential.
