Ecological and cultural anatomy of Taishan villages
Article Abstract:
Taishan County in the Guangdong Province of China is a unique model because of its villages that have sought to strike a balance between the demographic and ecological changes that are taking place in the countryside. Despite the growth in population and meagre natural resources, the peasants have evolved a system of settlement that is eco-friendly and aesthetically pleasing. They have adopted innovative means of farming and recycling of nutrients besides creating conditions for sufficient cultural interaction.
