Fight back against negative press
Article Abstract:
The image of vocational education among the general public is strongly influenced by the view created by the media. Ignorance about the goals of vocational education is reinforced by media humor and negative press. Vocational educators should counter this negative press and the poor image it has been given by opening lines of communication with the media and government officials. A strong public relations campaign will help inform the public about the services and benefits offered by vocational education.

But Back to What Basics?
Article Abstract:
The public should not promote the Back to Basics movement in education simply because basics are old. Just because something is old does not make it basic. Much that is new can also be basic. Knowing how to decide what are the real basics in education, and what are frills is difficult. It is essential that students be prepared for what will be ahead of them in life, and be able to approach the future reflectively and unafraid.
