Article Abstract:
Personalised learning has become a buzzword in schools policy but for many teachers in schools which have embarked on personalised learning, the first reaction is exasperation. Critics claim it is unrealistic to expect teachers to devote time to personalised learning but Liz Beaty, director of learning and teaching at the Higher Education Funding Council for England (Hefce), believes the critics have misunderstood and that personalised learning in higher education will move some way towards overhauling the idea of a university.

Why make life tough?
Article Abstract:
Pupils are being encouraged to take A-level subjects that are perceived as being easier - such as sociology or English rather than maths or physics - as a result of the government's current obsession with league tables and educational game-playing. It is argued that one way to stop this happening would be to do away with league tables that were purely based on raw examination results and instead evaluate a school's performance by the amount of progress made.

An analysis of the use of league tables to evaluate the performance of educational institutes. It is argued that the problem with league tables is that they ignore the fact that different educational institutions are of different sizes and will have different strengths.
